Statement by Francisco Picado, candidate for Co-Chair
I am running for the 2015-2017 co-chair position. My goal is to continue to provide continuity for the positive achievements made by CAPI during the past 10 years as the new board faces the challenges of today. This year we have made significant achievements while we continue to face many of the old challenges. The new board must continue to work to improve access to affordable continuing education opportunities for all professional interpreters throughout Colorado, including sign language, medical, conference and court interpreters.
I have over 30 years of experience as an interpreter. I also worked as a translator and staff writer for a publishing house in New York City for many years. I’m currently the Language Access Manager for a Judicial District in Colorado, where I’m required to spend the great majority of my working hours interpreting. I also have substantial experience as an organizer of community-oriented organizations.
Statement by Jose Luis Benavente, candidate for Co-Chair
Objectives in seeking CAPI co-chair position:
To represent interpreters as a whole throughout the state of Colorado, across all languages, disciplines (medical, judicial, academic, community, etc.) and levels (certified and non, experienced and newcomers).
To speak on behalf of our group in pursuit of greater recognition for the critical roles we carry out and a corresponding acknowledgment for our time and the services we perform.
To establish a greater interface with the various business communities and grow the universe of institutions that utilize our services.
With a vision to build upon the previous efforts of our organization I will work towards the continued creation of rewarding opportunities for professional development and the enhancement of skills in order to support an image of our profession that lends itself to superior working parameters and remuneration.
I ask for your support. Choose Benavente for Presidente. Thank you.
